Summer learning journey Day 1 week 1 activity 1

Hello and welcome back to my blog and I am doing summer learning this holidays.What you do is you blog posts through the holidays and you can win some really cool prizes you can also win an I-pad.

Day 1, Week 1, Activity 1
Task:Imagine that you were invited to join Nainoa for three weeks at sea. You are asked to pack your own food. List 10 food items that you could take on the trip. Remember you will not have a fridge or freezer!On your blog, post your list of 10 food items you would take on an ocean voyage. 1. Lollies2. Fruit 3.Bread  4. Apples 5. Cheese6. Noodles7. Mandarins

Hilarious Haiku's

This week for writing on Tuesday we focused on writing haiku's. Elsha and  I wrote a few haiku's together. They were a bit funny and interesting to read. Haiku's are a short poem that has three lines. The first and last line both have to have five syllables, while the second with seven. They don't have to rhyme, but some of ours do.
Here as an example of a haiku to show you what it looks like.
An ocean voyage
As waves break over the bow
The sea welcomes me

Here is ours

The dog barked at me

I then jumped and screamed so loud

Neighbors came quickly

Life is just awesome

I am always having fun

Even when I’m Numb

Sun sun sun sun sun,

It is so much fun fun fun

Even when it’s done

On Wednesday the 8th of may Erica Lingard came in to talk about her company EcoMe. The company is about saving the environment so all the stuff she makes is friendly to the green bin.What inspired her to make the company is when she worked at a preschool,one of her jobs at the preschool was when the preschool closed she would take out the trash,then one day she looked at the rubbish and it was huge so Erica had a plan to start the company.It has only been a couple of months since she started her products so far are...

Dakota's student teacher spectacular blog

This term my hub have been lucky enough to have some student teachers.There were only 2 student teachers 1 in home base 3 and 1 in home base 1.I am in home base 3 so I was so excited to find out that we had student teacher in my class.The student teachers name in our class is Miss Thomas.Miss Tomas used to motorbike ride and I love motorbike riding and she also went to a place in Fiji called Suva.In Suva there was a school and it looked very old and runned down but the students had done some painting and wrote some prayers on the walls.Thank - you for reading my blog

Dakota's wonderful winter sport blog

This year Tumu Hub have been going to winter sport there were many of sports to play like netball ,  soccer , Hockey and tackle rugby.I picked hockey because I thought that it would be good to choose a new sport to play because I have played many sports but avoided hockey so I went along to the try outs and then waited a couple days then found out that I was in the A team , I was so excited.The first winter sport game was nervous but we done really and that luck has carried on and now my team is un defeated in our actual games but in the north zones tournament we came third so we didn't quite get to centrals but we almost did because the top team go to centrals. As I have been through the season I have definitely been running loads and doing way more fitness then I used to.

Dakota's interesting innovation blog

This term in PBL Tumu have been learning about innovation.We want to learn about innovation because we want to have some background knowledge on how things work.

Innovation is when you find a problem in the world and you make something that will solve that problem.

There have been some struggles for this PBL because most people have already created things that we need and we don't really need any thing else but I still know that there is still something waiting to be created.

My group thought about making an alarm for noise so when the hub gets to loud the siren will go off and it will say "Tumu is to loud Tumu is to loud".

Radical reading

In reading this term our focus has been looking at articles about climate change.

I have learnt that:

We are doing so much bad things to the earth and we need to stop.

That there is a big garbage patch in the middle of the pacific ocean called the great pacific garbage it is as about the size of  Texas two times  . 

New words that I have discovered are:

Methane gas :Cow farts😂

Greenhouse gases :Bad gases that come from cars , Factories and other gases like that. 

Compost :A bin that you can put food scraps in such as banana peels and other peels like that.
